in collective bargaining, ranging from research to member
organizing to public relations.

non-retention, PTPC complaints, and other employment-related

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE
UNDER FIRE

Don't resign.
-
Don't sign anything.
-
Read carefully the relevant contract or
policy language.
-
Document everything that happens with
specifics and names of witnesses.
-
Write down everything you remember about the
problem.
-
Immediately contact nearest Association
representative or NEA-Alaska office.
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL
THREATENED AT SCHOOL
If you are threatened or feel in danger because of some action by a
student or community member, you should immediately report the
incident to the nearest state trooper or local police, and report
the incident to the district administration.
Then you need to:

Notify your local Association and/or
NEA-Alaska office that an unsafe condition exists.

File a grievance if there has been some
violation of your negotiated agreement.

Ensure that your local district has a school
safety program per AS 14.33.110-140, and is following it.

Should you be attacked and injured while on
the job, make sure that you file a workers' compensation claim
with the district.
-
Bargain strong language in your negotiated
agreement that sets "zero tolerance" for violence against school
staff.
