This year, members will be able to tailor their Fall Event experience to their learning style by selecting from 5 different conference strands that address major issues impacting public education: Minority Leadership, Social Justice, School Safety and Success, New Educators, and Technology in the Classroom. Conference check-in will be available starting at 3pm on Friday afternoon, October 20. The evening program will begin at 4:30pm followed by dinner and keynote speakers. The conference will conclude at 12:30pm on Sunday, so please make travel arrangements accordingly.

**Registration for Fall Event is currently at capacity. You can still register and be placed on a wait list. If you do this, DO NOT book travel for Fall Event unless we notify you that your registration has been confirmed.

NEA-Alaska will reimburse roundtrip airfare (best possible fare prior to October 1) to Anchorage to attend Fall Event. Travel from outside the Anchorage area must be authorized by your local president prior to purchasing your airlines ticket (or mileage if applicable) for reimbursement purposes.

Please keep all boarding passes and a copy of your itinerary showing how your airline ticket was paid for, as required documentation when submitting for reimbursement. If applicable, you will be reimbursed up to the mileage cost of airfare (best value possible).

For cab fare to and from the airport, you must have a receipt. If you share a cab, please provide the names of those sharing the cab.

Reimbursement forms will be available at the conference check-in table.

All costs associated with lodging will be the responsibility of the local and/or individual member. See below on how to make hotel reservations.

*Please Note:   We have reached our capacity at The Hotel Captain Cook and they may not have rooms available for Fall Event.  

We have made lodging arrangements with the Westmark Hotel, located at 720 West Fifth Avenue (one block from Captain Cook), for a special rate of $85.00/per night/plus tax/single/double.  Deadline for making reservations:  Friday October 13.

Westmark Anchorage Hotel

720 West Fifth Avenue (Located 1 block from Captain Cook)

  • Complimentary WI-FI throughout entire hotel
  • Private balcony with every guest room
  • Full service Solstice Restaurant with Starbucks espresso & coffee
  • Parking available for hotel guests at $15 per day per vehicle (NEA-Alaska reimburses up to $18 per day with receipts.)

Note:   All rooms in our block will be released after Friday, October 13.

Wi-Fi: Free high-speed wifi throughout the hotel.
Health & Fitness: The hotel is providing free use of the facilities to NEA-Alaska conference attendees. The facilities include separate men’s and women’s athletic clubs, Swedish saunas, steam rooms and full-size indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi whirlpool spa, circuit training room, racquetball court, aerobic and aquatic classes. Note that there are costs associated with suntan beds and massages.

NEA-Alaska will provide Friday night dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch, and Sunday breakfast. All other meals are on your own.

For attendees who specified special meal requirements when they registered, a yellow ticket can be found in the backside of your name badge. Please show this ticket to a server to get your meals.

UAA credit will not be available at this year’s Fall Event.

1. Parking Lot

Diamond Parking has provided NEA-Alaska conference attendees a special rate of $18.00 per day for their “open lot” located at the corner of K Street, between 5th & 6th Avenue.  These rates also apply to to the small Diamond parking lot located on 5th Avenue near the Voyager Hotel.  NEA-Alaska will reimburse up to $18 per day with receipts.

Passes can be purchased by the day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) or up to 3 days at one time (Friday through Sunday). Be sure to keep your pass visible at all times as this provides in & out access to the lot and parking in any numbered space.

NEA 1 Day       Rate $18.00

  • One day only – Friday, or Saturday or Sunday.  Expires each day at midnight

NEA 3 Day       Rate $54.00

  • Effective Friday through Sunday.  Expires at midnight on Sunday

2. Diamond Garage Parking

Located between 4th and 5th Avenue, on K Street across from the Hotel Captain Cook.

  • 0 – 2 hours          $5
  • each additional hour $3
  • Lost ticket $48

Note:  Diamond Parking charges every time the car leaves the garage.
NEA-Alaska will reimburse up to $18 per day with receipts.

3. Hotel Captain Cook Valet Parking    

  • 5 hours or less $20   Provides “in & out” access with no additional cost.
  • 5 to 24 hours $30   Provides “in & out” access with no additional cost.

Valet parking available on the 4th Avenue side of hotel.
NEA-Alaska will reimburse up to $18 per day with receipts. (Note: The Hotel Captain Cook utilizes the Diamond Garage for their valet parking services)

4. EasyPark – On Street Parking


  • 2 hour meter $1.75 per hour (2-hour maximum stay limits are enforced on Saturdays from 9am – 6pm. You must move your vehicle 1 city block after your 2-hour stay is up or you will be ticketed).
  • 10 hour meter $1.25 per hour (These meters are orange and can be found on 7th Ave between K and I Street, just 2 blocks away from the Hotel Captain Cook).
