CONFERENCE INFORMATION

October 18, 19 & 20
Hotel Captain Cook, Anchorage

NEA-Alaska’s 2019 Fall Event, Building Trauma Responsive Schools, will be an in-depth training on the impact that trauma has on our students and the tools we can use to mitigate it’s destructive force in our schools. Participants will be trained in local teams with the goal of continuing the work of building trauma responsive schools in your district.

Registration for Fall Event will be open  to local presidents to submit names on September 9, 2019. Registration will remain open for all individuals until October 4, 2019.

Conference check-in will be available starting at 3pm on Friday afternoon, October 18. The evening program will begin at 5:00pm followed by dinner and a keynote speaker. The conference will conclude at 12:30pm on Sunday, so please make travel arrangements accordingly.

AGENDA

NEA-Alaska will reimburse roundtrip airfare (best possible fare) to Anchorage to attend Fall Event. Travel from outside the Anchorage area must be authorized by your local president prior to purchasing your airlines ticket (or mileage if applicable) for reimbursement purposes.

Please keep all boarding passes and a copy of your itinerary showing how your airline ticket was paid for, as required documentation when submitting for reimbursement. If applicable, you will be reimbursed up to the mileage cost of airfare (best value possible).

For cab fare to and from the airport, you must have a receipt. If you share a cab, please provide the names of those sharing the cab.

Reimbursement forms will be available at the conference check-in table.

All costs associated with lodging will be the responsibility of the local and/or individual member. See below on how to make hotel reservations.

Note: All rooms in our block will be released after Monday, October 8.

THE CAPTAIN COOK HOTEL AMENITIES

Wi-Fi: Free high-speed wifi throughout the hotel.

Health & Fitness: The hotel is providing free use of the facilities to NEA-Alaska conference attendees. The facilities include separate men’s and women’s athletic clubs, Swedish saunas, steam rooms and full-size indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi whirlpool spa, circuit training room, racquetball court, aerobic and aquatic classes. Note that there are costs associated with suntan beds and massages.

NEA-Alaska will reimburse up to $25 per day with receipts. There are no special or discounted lots available.

NEA-Alaska will provide Friday night dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch, and Sunday breakfast. All other meals are on your own. (NEA-Alaska will not provide any meal reimbursements for this event. Some costs for meals not provided may be reimbursed through your local, check with your local president for confirmation.)

For attendees who specified special meal requirements when they registered, a yellow ticket can be found in the backside of your name badge. Please show this ticket to a server to get your meals.
