State fair booths reach out to families
September 2007

Each year as the summer winds down and back-to-school winds blow across Alaska, NEA-Alaska sponsors a booth at the state fairs held in Fairbanks, Ninilchik, and Palmer.  The booths are staffed by members, who give out parenting tips, register voters, sign up families for a raffle to win a Barnes & Noble gift certificate, answer questions, and put a friendly face on the union.

We also hand out rack cards about important issues such as Senate Bill 183, to restore a secure state pension for our members and other public employees.  Here are a few of the many volunteers, both active and retired, who staffed our booths this fall.

MSEA member Devon DeGarmo drops by for a quick visit with CEA member K.C. White, who was staffing the booth in Palmer.

Husband and wife duo, Kent and Suzanne Hermon, MSEA and CEA members, respectively, stand ready to greet the next batch of fair-goers.
