Full Circle: Educator, Member, Advocate

NEA-Alaska is excited to welcome new UniServ Director, Jessica Minguez to our team!

Jessica’s involvement with NEA-Alaska began with her work as an educator for over 14 years and her involvement with her local, the Anchorage Education Association. Jessica was recognized as an Emerging Leader in AEA, and as she became more active in her local, she was asked by her local president to help with the work that AEA and NEA-Alaska were doing related to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). She never looked back. She has been a member of the AEA Bargaining team, served as the AEA Executive Board Secretary, and joined the AEA Professional Development Committee, where she just finished her first year as Chair.

Through her work on the AEA Bargaining team and AEA Executive Board she has become an expert on contract negotiations and the necessity of organizing to achieve favorable outcomes at the bargaining table.

Jessica was elected to the NEA-Alaska Board of Directors in January of 2019 to further her mission of enhancing NEA-Alaska’s professional development opportunities. Jessica joined the NEA-Alaska staff as a UniServ Director and has already contributed greatly to ongoing professional development programs at the state level.
