NEA-Alaska Endorses Mark Begich for Governor
Following seismic shift in the race for Alaska Governor, NEA-Alaska’s Political Action Committee on Education endorses Senator Mark Begich.
ANCHORAGE, AK- Late in the evening on Monday, October 22, NEA-Alaska’s Political Action Committee on Education (PACE) voted to endorse Senator Mark Begich for Governor following the suspension of Governor Bill Walker’s campaign.
NEA-Alaska PACE is comprised of 30 elected members from across Alaska representing 13,000 public school educators.
“Mark Begich has been a fierce advocate and proud supporter of public education in Alaska and he understands the needs of Alaska students,” said NEA-Alaska President, Tim Parker. “There has never been a starker contrast between two candidates and their vision for public education than exists between Mark Begich and Mike Dunleavy. Senator Begich has provided Alaskans with a detailed plan for protecting public education while his opponent refused to even answer our questionnaire and has a troubling record of pushing devastating budget cuts, promoting unconstitutional vouchers, and threatening to close rural schools. For Alaska educators, the choice is clear. Mark Begich will make student learning a priority, stabilize education funding, and ensure the professional educators who serve in our schools have a seat at the table when decisions are made.”
The stakes have never been higher in a race for Alaska Governor. Mark Begich is the best candidate for Alaska students, educators, schools, and families.
