Stay informed, stay involved--Sign up to receive the ‘NEA-Alaska Legislative Update’
Following the progress of bills in Juneau can be a challenge for busy educators, but NEA-Alaska makes it easy for you. Legislative updates e-mailed to you provide brief summaries of priority legislation and updates on the bills as they make their way through the committee structure in the House and Senate. The updates also provide calls to action, when members on a key committee need to hear from educators. To sign up, e-mail trisha.allen@neaalaska.org.
“What happens in Juneau reverberates into every classroom across Alaska,” said NEA-Alaska President Barb Angaiak, “and as the legislature reconvenes this month, all of us who advocate for schools and children must be increasingly vigilant.”
Communicate with your legislators throughout the session and let them know where you stand on education issues. Face-to-face is the most effective method of communication, so find out when they are returning to the district and arrange to meet with them while they are home. Other methods include phone calls, e-mails, letters, and Public Opinion Messages. “We are the experts about what our schools need and what policies make sense,” said President Angaiak, “so it’s incumbent on us to tell our stories.”
