Electing Pro-Education Candidates

To make a real difference for schools and children, and our own profession, we must step out of our classrooms and schools and get involved in the political process. That’s why NEA-Alaska and a number of our local affiliates work to elect pro-education candidates to local school boards and assemblies, the Alaska Legislature, the governor’s mansion, the U.S. House and Senate, and the White House.

Every two years NEA-Alaska sends out education questionnaires to candidates and the NEA-Alaska PACE committee, made up of elected members, conducts face-to-face interviews with the candidates. Based on the candidates' responses, NEA-Alaska may make reccomendations to the membership for legislative districts in Alaska.

Elected officials have dramatic impact on the lives of public school employees.
