Rights & Bargaining — Grievances

What is a Grievance?

A Grievance Is...

  • your first amendment right to petition for redress of grievance
  • necessary for interpretation of the contract
  • an educational tool for negotiations
  • a means of protecting the students' right to high quality education
  • the settling of a problem in a businesslike manner

A Grievance Is Not...

  • an indication of pettiness
  • griping
  • chronic complaining
  • time wasting
  • a boxing match between teachers and administrators

Use It or Lose it!  It is YOUR responsibility to help illustrate the weak areas of your contract.  Failure to grieve contract violations indicates acceptance of such violation.   Get out of the ranks of the silent majority.  Unchallenged contract violations could lead to contract stripping!

Your Right to Representation — You are guaranteed the right.
